I gotta COBRA $79.95 @ Circuit City, has voice alert and or alarm alert. For me, it's never let me down, several close calls, but, it has done the job.

Pay attention Lester... Everyone on here has said that the more money you spend the better your chances of getting a good detector. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I have the 8500 and it has saved me many times. I've also been caught a few times due to Laser. Nothing is fool proof. If you get tagged and pulled over and they know you are/were using a detector, expect a ticket... period. Years ago there was a K-40 brand (not sure if they are still around) that used to offer to pay for your ticket if you got one while using their detector. Seems like a pretty reasonable guarantee but I don't know or remember all the conditions.

We obviously didn't buy these cars to drive 55. I live near MikeVistaBlue because I know the exact trap he's talking about. Bottom line is despite the detector that you have, you have to pay attention as well and listen to the damn thing when it goes off. Don't go cheap if you're gonna do it.

Go ahead and drive like you want to drive, but don't come back here whimpering like some spoiled 6 year old when you get a ticket and start talking about what a jerk the cop was and asking people how to get out of it. When it happens, and it will, you'll just have to sack it up and deal with it.
DR Phil is not a Doctor, nor is his name Phil.

My advice (other than getting the same model Bel I have...or the comparable Escort) is to do the same as a few others have suggested -- don't cheap out on a purchase like this. I don't normally advocate spending extra money to have the absolute best of everything, but if you're going to drive fast like most of us Mustang owners tend to do (all except Booster of course; he obeys all the traffic laws and his avatar that implies SPEED is only an illusion -- just ignore his snide remarks by the way), then it's very wise to go with the best your money can buy. Spending $300 or so on an excellent radar detector (and keeping your eyes peeled anytime you're at leat 10 over the limit) will seem like chump change compared to paying the costs of more than one speeding ticket and the associated insurance increases you'll eventually "earn" by getting caught. My Bel (and alertness) has saved me from two tickets already and I've only had this detector for about three months, so I figure it's already paid for itself.

My next piece of advice is that when you do decide to buy, BUY ONLINE. Search for the model you want on Ebay, Amazon, Pricegrabber.com, CNet.com, etc. I guarantee you will save good money -- perhaps $50 or more -- if you look around at various sites. In other words, do not buy from Best Buy or places like that, and do not buy direct from Bel or any other manufacturer you decide on. It's worth it.....so good luck and be careful.
