Immaturity + irresponsibility + ignorance = pain and suffering. Its so up to all of us motor heads to set good examples for the young adults who see us and our nice rides. At one point in our life time an adult or some event in our youth inspired us to have these cars and have responsible fun with them!!!
if some one inspired me I'm unsure of who I've just always considered the posibilities

and ya you don't have to (drink or have a fast car or any of those) to kill but it doesn't help
but if a strong since of responsibility is in you you have a better chance of not being rekless

Thanks for removing the last pic. I lost my little brother (he was 19) in a bad car wreck and he was in the same position as that guy. Hardest day of my life.

My heart goes out to you....I can only "imagine" how hard that day was......I was really torn with that last picture myself until another member spoke out so Im glad I removed it but I still shared it with my sons simply to show reality (if you know what I mean).

Yes, I do know what you mean. It is still very hard for my family but people need to realize what could happen. Unfortunately...sometimes it's to late. My brother was going fast (83 mph) down a side street and came around a little corner and hit a wood chipper truck head on. When he went skidding, his car turned completely around, facing the other direction. The whole drivers side what tore up and the door came competely off the hinge. My brother was still sitting in his seat. Had seat belt on and airbag was out. It was aweful. Thanks for sharing your story.

HP is irrelevant.
Not quite. I do agree that all cars should not be looked at like toys, no. Even a geo can still run over somebody or get into a crash. But 120hp fwd is NOT the equivalent in danger as a 300hp rwd muscle car. Simply not. It is much easier to lose control with the muscle car simply by touching on the gas a little too much on accident. Whereas a Yugo wouldn't. I miss the Yugo, those should be brought back. The ultimate teenager car, small power and cheap.
And besides accidents, deliberate driving. Knowing you have all that power under the hood eventually you'll take advantage of it. That urge is nowhere as strong with an Aveo or a Sunbird as it would be with a Mustang, Camaro, or Charger.

So the car itself is quite relevant. If you give a kid a nice car 95% of them will try and show off with it. I say that because obviously there are SOME responsible youths, so as not to turn this into yet another "kids don't deserve a Mustang at 18" topics Sorry Mr. Responsible 17yr old, you might be that but the rest of your demographic aren't. Gotta just live with the stereotype, it is there for a reason.

With that said that doesn't mean driving an Aveo suddenly makes them safe drivers. They can still get drunk/high and get behind the wheel and kill somebody or themselves. They need a good upbringing from childhood, taught about responsibility and safety. And if they misbehave to have the backbone to take the vehicle away from them since they obviously don't deserve the privilage of driving just yet.
Youre right about the HP. It is A LOT easier to lose control of a powerful car. But my whole point was that any vehicle in the wrong hands is dangerous. I bet its irrelevant that the kid was driving a camaro, if he had a talon or civic Im sure something similar or worse wouldve happend. I read the article or whatever, and it flat out said that there were no skid marks around the corner. Its like the kid didnt see the turn and just went straight at the house through a hedgerow. It doesnt sound like he "lost" control, but rather didnt see the road ended, and only realized his grievous error when he noticed a house coming at him really quickly. That is just what I gathered from reading the article.
At any rate, I feel bad for the kids and the parents of the kids. The driver is going to have consequeces for a long time after this, I just hope that he will muster up enough courage to talk to young kids about the dangers of driving.
-P.
PS: I bet if the kid was wearing a helmet he'd be alive.

The real question has to be where the alcohol came from...

And people who talk about competency tests for minors can't deny the fact that this should be done on both ends, as senior citizens who drive are sometimes more dangerous.

Overall, this is very sad, and I give my condolences to both of the families...

What a sad story...no need to lose our youth on senseless accidents like this one or any other accident.

My cousin died at 16 years old in a z-28 but to be honest it doesn't matter how old you are it can happen to any of us just losing our car once.

Absolutely!!! Older adults are certainly not exempt from this type of tragedy!

Oh man, talking about my driving experience with the elderly on the road... none of it is good so I won't say anything. Though I do agree that as the years go up so should testing. Not every year necessarily, but every 5 years treat it like a new liscense. Eye exam and on-road. I know I won't be living that long so I wouldn't mind agreeing to that type of regulation [&:]

As for drinking at 21, or 18, or as mentioned 40. It should be 18. 18 is legal aduthood, 18 is legal serve country and die age... so 18 should be the bar that's set. However due to Federal abuse of power they limit the state's rights forcefully. Big government at work, yet Americans just keep bending over and taking more of it from the Gov't year after year, month after month.

18 should be legal, not 40. Let people drink to their hearts desire. Just enact much harsher and strictly enforced intoxication laws. If driving intoxicated guilty first time, year probation + hefty fine or jail time (your choice). Caught again? Well you were given your second chance and you blew it, take the liscense away. If you aren't capable of respecting the safety of other drivers on the road and wish to put them all in harms way because you can't call a taxi then you have not earned the privilage to drive, period.

Personally I'm more for the death penalty for them but not everybody would exactly agree on that account. But I prefer to give Darwin a helping hand as social darwinism is slacking off a lot lately.
