Shaker 500 -- worth it vs. system from circuit city or best buy?

RE: Shaker 500 -- worth it vs. system from circuit city or best buy?
As you can see by my mods I took out the Shaker 1000 and got a Pioneer DVD in dash head unit and changed out the front door uppper speakers and added dynamat. Wow, big difference in sound quality. The shaker wasn't bad but sounded very muddy to me. I wanted the capability of finding songs in a hurry and hooking up an Ipod. You won't be sorry in replacing you head unit. I do have a practically brand new Shaker 1000 headunit I would like to sell, but I won't give it away either. I don't regret one minute of making the decision to change it out.

Only on the Premium. The Deluxe has the 4 speaker AM/FM/CD as standard and the Shaker 500 is a $665 option.

Are there some type of tweeters in the map light deal? I noticed when I test drove a stang w/ the shaker holes in that deal. Mine doesn't have them (base stereo package).

I believe the holes in the map light housing are motion detectors for the active anti-theft.

Just checked this after the first day I posted it -- didn't realize there were so many replies, thank you to all who gave some opinions
I'm still a bit torn. I was convinced that the 500 was worth it due to it's fairly decent sound combined with the fact that dumbass kids aren't gonna F up my car, plus it's less likely to be stolen.
BUT -- it occassionally skips.... ugh...
On the bright side, the 07 models have the ipod plugin..
I'm gonna have to listen to it in the showroom to get an idea.
If I can negotiate them down to half price for it, then maybe I'll grab it. I REALLY think the point someone made about not having to worry about someone messing up the wiring in my car is very important, I hadn't thought about that. I planned to watch them (best buy, circuit city, whoever) with an eagle eye while they did the install to make sure they didn't scratch the car. But I wouldn't know what the hell mistakes they made in the wiring, etc
for the record I'm probably not as big an audio critic as the other posters here, so I bet I'd be perfectly happy with this system if it just wouldn't skip

the biggest improvement you can make on the stock stereo is a new deck. get one that plays mp3s and has time alignment customizeability, and it will sound at least as good as a pop-in set of 150$ speakers. if you get new speakers, i am an adament supporter of getting good components and an external amplifier or nothing at all.
