Guys, check the threads on this--turns out there is a TSB on the problem. Warranty should cover it and the service moron who told you to not use you new car's ebrake should be the one you hand the TSB to personally.

Yup, look here

It could be "Old School" but I don't believe in excess idling. Used to "warm" up a car that way, had lower main bearing problems which resulted from that, I was told. On the otherside, they the CHP cars last long cause they be always running.

For years now, I start it up in the mornig, give it a couple of minutes, and drive easy as pie till operating temp arrives. Realize that the water temp will not really mean the car is totally warmed up. The rest of the day any start is followed by a bit of time to "let the oil circulate" before putting into gear.

Also for the cold weather people, I advocate synthetic oil and Tufoil at www.tufoil.com

Is there anything that I can do to avoid a frozen e-brake? My parents make me park my car outside and I usually turn it on 20 minutes before I leave to go to school if that helps.

My father-in-law spent most of his life in Wisconsin. When he moved to the west coast I noticed he never used the parking brake. He said he got into the habit of never using it from all his years living in cold climate.
