No question that small displacement rice rockets can spin up major HP numbers with the right turbos on them, but they CANNOT match the torque that a large displacement V8 can generate with a high end twin-screw SC. Horsepower parity aside, there is no way a 600 horsepower 2.5 liter STI is going to beat a 600 horsepower 4.6 liter Mustang. No way, no how. The whole thing is over in the first 100 feet.
Dude.. are u kidding me? A 300 hp, bone stock Evo IX is running in the low 4's 0-60, and never looses grip. It's almost 500 lbs lighter, 4 wheel drive, crazy traction control.... That car will EAT a GT for breakfast with 30% less hp.

The GT is a nice car.. comfortable, good sound, and american low end power. And that's about where it ends.
To which I say: Link - MUSTANG DRIFT KING CHAMPION Not bad for a live axle car that beat ALL the Japanese contenders. Seems to me, those RICERS can learn a FEW things from us when it comes to handling.

my buddy has a 2.3l stroke ron his evo he added for only 2800 bucks. Then it has some upgraded turbo i really don tknow i dont pay attention to it but his car is a 500whp dd. Supposedly on that stroker you coul dmake way mor ehp easy too. I can gurantee his 500hp evo will slap a 500 hp mustang unless that mustang is weight reduced and upgraded suspension. Those cars stock come with good enough to go and race. Now i will say at the drag strip ive seen a supposed 800hp sti and 800 hp 03cobra race and th ecobra mopped the floor with the sti.

Just had one car to add to this list

Will a stage 3 srt4 not beat a gt?

FWIW

The base GT (same performance as a $30k model) is only $26k

The base STI is $33,495 (subaru.com)

The base EVO is $29,774, while the more competitive MR is $36k.

The other that no one is considering is the 350z, which is not much in a straight line or with mods, but handles and corners well.

Exactly...Still no other car in the Mustang's price range with the same or better power. And if anyone buys the Mustang for it's "handling" ability in turns or roadcourse...they bought the wrong car. Anyone that buys the Mustang and bitches about it's handling ability or tries to compare it to cars which were strictly built for their handling ability are only showing their ignorance.

This is a muscle car built to go in a straight line. For about $7k you can get a Mustang to dip into the low 10s high 9s...that's $33k total...none of the other cars can do that unless you mod them and then you're still more expensive than the Mustang. Bottom line here is there is no other car built today that can touch the power of the Mustang for the cost.

Hmmm, so no real competition at the below $30K price?
The 350Z was mentioned but it would have to be a USED one, and a windy road.
Maybe in a few years when the used Infiniti GS and the Lexus is350 get under 30K!
Weird though... maybe I need to review that 2007 new car guide I got! Think there'd be something in the Mustang's price range that competes dollar wise as well as performance wise.
Anybody???

It really should be the $25K question, as I know of several '05-'06 GT owners who paid right around $25K, including myself. There isn't a NEW car ANYWHERE that can compete in that price range.

Heh, I paid 21k for my baby, used. Show me a car that can touch me in THAT price range. =)

Hmmm... Guess I'll answer my question with this article in the new mags on the Mazdaspeed3:
0-60 in 5.8 secs
Top speed= 155mph
price= $22,300

So stock verses stock it might be close. A totally different kind of car. I think it's wrong to dis it for being a Japanese car. I think it could appeal to lots of possible Mustang owners who want more storage room and better seating for rear passengers. Handles well too. Just don't pimp the darn thing out! Heard there's a huge waiting list for these and only 5000 coming to the US.
Personally, I would need NAV and all other options which makes it about $27,000 and it still looks too much like a regular Mazda3. If I didn't have my Mustang though I might get one.
