Sometimes, if you just act like you know what the laws are, the cops are less likely to push back. You just have to come off not as a know it all jerk, but factual. I've gotten pulled over several times when I had my ricer-like Saturn (and those cars can be quick enough to beat a C5 Corvette; I've got video proof). But with regards to tint, you just have to know the laws in your state, have something that you can hold up to the police if they stop you that shows it to be within that fudge factor...Sometimes confidence goes a long way.
I've never got a ticket for tint before but I have a speeding story. Last year I was going down the outer road to my house. The outer road runs paralel to the Interstate. I was doing 50 in a 45 and came up on a cop heading towards me. He immediately pulled me over and wrote me a ticket for doing 71! Obviously he clocked someone on the interstate which has a 70mph speed limit. I tried to tell him this but he was a complete A-hole, unlike most of the cops in my town which are really cool. I went to court and talked to the prosecuter and got the ticket dropped.
I would have caught up to the ricing s**t head and hope the cop would be following close behind. No doubt the ricer would have challenged you and sped away and have the cop get him for speeding and tint.
Strange story. I was getting mine tinted and the kid was on the last window (I told him go as dark as was legal...) when the owner came in and chewed his butt for mixing the wrong tints which then made the combination illegal. He asked if I wanted them to remove it and fix it. I was concerned they would break the rear window defroster so I said no, leave it.
Havent been stopped yet though!

I got a ticket for the tint so I went to court with a made up receipt which I got at the office supply store...
Greased it up a little to make it look authentic and wrote on it that the tint was removed by a local mechanic at a price of $50.00...
The judge looks at it andI gotoff...
