They have to vin lock it or they wouldn't make money. And i know before anyone knew it was vin locked everyone wanted to share theirs. Imagine having 5 friends with the same car and almost same setup, buy one tuner, share the tunes, but like everyone said, your stock tune comes out, new one uploaded, then all it can do is check trouble codes till you put your stock tune back in. Also most of them will say for V6/V8 so it's the tune not handheld tuner
If you buy a used one, before you buy it, ask if they put their stock tune back.

But gidyup has the real answer...sweet.
