410s in a automatic ?

RE: 410s in a automatic ?
According to the Ford website and tire sizes shown, stock 17 inch wheels would have a diameter of 26.31 inches and the optional 18 inch wheels would have a diameter of 27.25 inches. The gearing of 3.31 I am sure is associated with the stock 17 inch wheels so if you wanted your effective gearing you would have to compare with the 26.31 inch diameter. In my case that would be (26.31/27.58)*4.10 = 3.91 gear ratio.

If you are going to stay NA I would go with 4.10’s, if you are going FI in the future I would go with 3.73’s. I have 3.73 and really like them NA but I went with them because I am adding TT’s this month.

Wingman, it would actually be .155 inches (roughly1/8") that you would have burnt off ; ) because you effectively have an upper and lower sidewall. Or (no offense), but you may not actually have been able to measure to the 1/4 inch because of the camber in the sidewalls with respect to the tread. Using the calculation method would be the best method of getting the true diameter of a "new" properly inflated tire. Sorry for the geek way of thinking, I am an enginerd.

Quick S, it's not that all those people are giving the wrong answer. It sounds like you are trying to get someone to tell you what you will like. Gear selection is very much a personal preference. There are several factors that will determine what gear you want to use in your car like; daily driver, quarter mile or road race and howoften you would do each, if a street only car what type of roads and terrain, how much you care about mileage vs performance, yada yada yada...
I think it is funny to read about people considering gear selection and they get all worked up about it running at 3500rpm at highway speeds. Heck, I like to keep mine up there, that's where the power is! I have 4:10s in my auto along with a 3,000rpm stall converter and LOVE it! Nobody can tell you what are the "correct" gears to buy. All they can do is help you make up your mind and offer recommendations based on what your preference is. -Joe

Whats the best gear for an Auto 06 Stang GT??
1.Car is daily Driver, including possible bad weather road conditions
2. Car goes to the track
4. Not worried about MPG, only performance
3. I don't want to out gear the car, whichseems to drawthe biggest contraversy
I have had shops tell me that with 4.10s I will out gear the car by 3rd gear, and otherstell me I won't. I have had shops tell me that drivabilty in bad weather conditions with 4.10s will be bad while others said No. I have shops tell me that my stock size tires, which by the way are 27.3, will be fine with 4.10s while other shops say I needa 28" tire to really make it work, or I have been told unless I go to a taller tire, to just leave my stock gears in. and the contradiction continues.....

RE: 410s in a automatic ?
QuickS, I made up my mind that I am going with the 4.10 gears, I use mine as just a car to tool around in, it is not my daily driver. The gears are on order and I have already received my retune for going to the 4.10 gears. Hopefully they will be installed by next Friday by my Ford dealer. I have been going back and forth the same as you, but I figured that worst case scenario if I don't like them, I will get some 3.73 gears installed instead. It wouldn't be the end of the world if I had to do that.

RE: 410s in a automatic ?
N/A = 4.10s.
Blown = 4.10s w/taller tires.
Rain? Slow Down.
Calculate mileage and RPMS (gear change ONLY) using this:
3.35/4.10=81.7%
2,000RPM on stock 3.35s would be 2,447RPM w/4.10s (2000/.817=2447)
18MPG stock 3.35s= 14.7MPG with 4.10s
edit: oops
