why we need a trunk release button:

the other day, i got out of my car, left the doors unlocked, took my keys with (needed to open the trunk), and popped the trunk. set my keys down in the trunk (fob and all) and took what i needed out. closed the trunk. oops.

spent 30 damn minutes figuring out how to get my keys. doors were unlocked but i couldn't open the trunk where my keys and fob were! keep in mind i was away from home with no spare. finally opened the glove box, and took out the manual. figured out that it was possible to put the back seats down from inside the car (never had a car where i could do that before, always had to do it from the trunk), and had to crawl through the damn small trunk to get my keys, and pulled the interior trunk release to let myself out. not fun at all. and all because we don't have a damn trunk release!!!! WTF was Ford thinking?!

To get back on topic (although that write-up on the trunk switch is awesome, thanks for that!) maybe your switch is an alarm valet switch. Did you buy your car new or used? The big red button further back is the only fuel cutoff switch that I'm aware of. there should not be any switches over the hood release in a factory original mustang. I'd say someone modified it before you.
I suppose it could be. What would such a button do?

I "poked" it really fast in fear that my car would explode.

easiest way to see if it's a valet switch is to arm the alarm, get in (the alarm will sound) put the key in the ignition, turn it to run (don't start it), and hit the button, if the alarm goes off, that's it. If the car blows up, I'll send ya a get well card in the burn unit.

Winner!!! Thanks for the suggestion! Cool feature if your remote breaks.

I had to use it when my batteries shot craps in the remote. Normally they try to hide the switch a little better than that though.

It's useless without the key anyway.

You know, why does every other damn Ford with a trunk has a trunk release button??? we pay $20K and dont get a damn trunk release button inside the car... while a Focus is $14K and it has a trunk/hatch release... gosh... Newsflash for Ford... we need a trunk release button... sry to go off topic... haha
I thought the same thing at first and then realized it's not necessary because you can use the trunk release button on your remote thingy...even in the car with the car running. I can't do that on my 2000 Mustang, which is why they put a trunk release button inside the glove box. Had the car for almost two years before I noticed that.
