Default RE: Changing my oil Tomorrow

ya some people think that in hot climates its ok to go to 30 weight but for those they forget that the climate won't have but little effect on engine temp when running because the engine gets so far above atmospheric temp but the climate will effect the heat dissipation efficiency and more efficiency the less the thermostat will be open and less that the fan will have to run
and ford did make it for 5W-20 which means the oil pump and numerous other components were selected to make it work with 5W-20

Really my bad I thought it was the other way around! LOL then just go with 5W-20 like it says on the oil cap

don't use 30 weight it'll mess with the VVT the 5W isn't the weight
the 20 is the standard test weight

Hello,
As long as it is 5W oil than the 5-30 is not problem to go with either. If you buy the K&N HP oil filter then you get a nifty 1 inch nut built into the filter to take off with an adj wrench. Works great! Also remember to put a thin layer of oil on the new filter to get a better seal and don't over tighten! The drain bolt I do the same thing. Hope it helps! J

I got the 5W30 b/c thats whats Brenspeed is selling...lol. If 20 is the right weight for this car then I'll switch. ALL INPUT NEEDED, WHAT IS THE CORRECT OIL WEIGHT FOR THE S197?

make sure you got some rags to wipe stuff off after you change it as the oil will get all over the power steering lines and the K-member.
that drives me nuts every time.... damn retarded engineering. every time i look at that power steering hose i think "wow, that like 3 times longer than it needs to be"

Motor Oil 101.

5W-20 = 5 viscosity, W = winter grade and 20 = operating wieght of oil. So this is how it works. The 5 is the viscosity of the oil when you first start up the car. It lets the oil get to the top end of the motor on a cold start. The W is a winter designation of the oil. Once the oil heats up to operating temperature it stays at a 20 wieght.

Click on engine oil guide and it will explain it further.
