I work in a auto dealership as a service advisor, and deal with the sales dept every day. I can tell you from experience that they don't like ordering, simply because the salesman doesn't get paind until you take delivery. Most salesman at any dealership only last a few months, so the chance of them actually getting paid on your transaction is minimalSo buy off the lot with a fist full of cash and really save..
I think this is really good advice. Also, by buying off the lot, you avoid sitting around waiting for your car for 2 months or longer. On the other hand, if you buy off the lot, you mayhave to "settle" for colors and options that might not be your absolute number one choices. Life lesson..., it's hard to have it all!

Damn, everyone of yall must be single, and making upwards of 50Gs or more, or saved up for a Mustang for several years. Maybe its just me being a college student working on a meager salery, but damn, 25-30K in hand? I'll be lucky to be able to put 3k down on my Mustangaround May/June.Somebody want to enlighten me?
If you are single and making less then $50,000 you are going to be in bad shape, depends on your age.
If you are married and making less the $50,000 you are in worst shape lol.
With the Stang Gt coming to be the 4th year when they come out in Aug of 2007 I would think MOST dealers will give you a Stang Gt at INVOICE and you will be able to get the color or whatever you want form the LOT and not having to order one.
Who in their right mind would ever pay MSRP on a Stang? The people that bought the 2005s took a beating.
You should always have money in the bank and pay your credit cards in full when you get them.I mean when I was a tad younger I used to have blances on my credit cards but hated to pay the interest and now I pay in full.
I know when I buy my 2008 Stang Gt I should get at least 18-$20,000 on my 2006 Stang Gt and another $6-$8000 I will have a 2008 GT........This time I will get a manual and not a auto..........JT

If you guys are unhappy with your interest rates, you can always refinance at a lower rate thru the net. Captialone.com and eloan.com are but two of many places to start.

Being middle age does havesome advantages

Best advice I have is don't fritter away your earnings on non tax deductable interest, like credit cards. Live within your means.

Georian
it isn't about bragging taht I can put down mhatoney, in fact I still have quite a bit of saving to do. I've just never bought a new car before and I didn't know where to ask about what kind of leverage you can get besides here, where hundreds of people have purchased a new car fairly recently. Also it is about reducing monthly payments by large money down, and finagling a low APR so I can actually afford insurance.

I'd be happy to buy a new GT off the dealer's lot, and would expect at least $2000 off the sticker. Problem is that none of the GTs they have are what I want!
They keep adding stuff I don't need/want (Sirius Sattelite, rear spoiler, wrong color interior -what, no chamois?) so what's the point of buying something I don't want, even if I get it at a good price!

Buy the car off a lot, wait til May of June and Ford will hav e great deals on 07's. Last year they had 0% for 60 months. That's the best time to buy.

When I bought my Mustang in Dec. Ford was offering the $1000 cash off on Mustangs. Since I was purchasing two vehicles plus a lot of other incentives thrown in, it did help me save a few $$. However, I paid CASH for both vehicles and I really don't think they could give a rats behind. As long as they got two sales they were satisfied. To them if you pay cash or on credit, they will get their money either way.

See, I'm looking at getting my Mustang in May/June, so yall really think they'll be cutting any deals then? I mean, sounds logical, cause of the 2008s coming out shortly after. When I get mine, I will also have hardly anything to pay for but the car and insurance, as my parents have no problem with me living at home until I am financially stable enough to get my own someday. But I do not "mooch" off my parents....lol.
