Default What could cause this noise?
06 GT, auto, no mods (yet).

Looking for all possibilities: Hum/Moan type noise from rear end, consant pitch and volume from about 40 mph to 65. At 65 mph, it increases in volume (louder) by about 50% - again same noise, same pitch, just louder. Fades off at about 68-70 mph. I don't hear it at all above 75 mph. No change on throttle position (accel, decel, cruise). No change in gear position (including neutral).

Key point: at 65 mph, I noticed if I swerve in one direction, it goes away (or greatly reduces), if I swerve in the other direction, it gets louder. that made me think it's a tire issue, but a recent tire rotation did not cahnge the noise.

Other than tires, could it be:

-a differentail bearing? If the bearing is shimmed too tight, would it make this type of noise?
- clutch pack? I don't have any noise on low speed turning.
- other?

Rather than go into detail about the service history on my car, I'd like to just get some ideas based on the info provided. TIA.

If you haven't done any mods to the rear, whatever it is, should be covered under warrenty.

So, on the way home fromwork tonight, I tried serving again. Swerve right - noise diminishes. Swerve left - louder. Then I just VERY slightly swerved right and left, I'm talking as little as possible - same result. So now I'm thinking it's gotta be a FRONT tire or bearing, 'cause the load on the rear wheels isn't changing that much to cause such a difference in sound. So now my question is - does anyone have a diagram or picture of the front suspension? This may be a dumb question, but where exactly is the front wheel bearing? I searched fordparts.com and all it shows is aHUB AND BEARING. Is that it?
