This Subject has beem hammered to death in other threads, I have also stated that if you guys would click the link at the bottom of my sig (Mustang Calculator) and look at the gear ratios vs top end speed at 6450 rpm(Redline) you will see that you will not loose any usable top end speed with 4.10 or 4.30's, this calculator has been proven 100% accurate by gear mechanics and they use it every day.
I sent a lot of time making it so please download it and use it...

with 4.10's in my 2005 Mustang GT I reached 142 MPH and had plenty of room to go higher.
I lost 1-2 MPG but gained in wow factor. My car is an Automatic and I can smoke the tires in first, scratch second and bark third. Yea 4.10 are worth it... I love them.

Alright that time I got it and that 3000 rpms at 86 mph is about right but I still wonder about that top speed. My question is does the torque ever decrease? Because that car is really tight with torque at 100 plus.

It does, the S197 are Limited by drag at 155 mph with 300HP
I am working on adding the aerodynamic drag coefficient to the calc. but right now it's based on a vacuume
the S197 has a Cd of0.38 a bit high
now I need to figure out the Rocket science

where

Fd is the force of drag,
Ï is the density of the air (Note that for the Earth's atmosphere, the density can be found using the barometric formula. It is 1.293 kg/m3 at 0°C and 1 atmosphere),
v is the velocity of the object relative to the fluid,
A is the reference area, and
Cd is the drag coefficient (a dimensionless constant, e.g. 0.25 to 0.45 for a car).

Don't let all those calculations scare you, you will not see them in the calculator all you will see
is the result, hopfully a true Top End Speed

if you want to go faster for a top end speed with the 4.10 gears, just put a six speed with 0.50 ratio sixth gear in the car. rearend ratio in sixth with 4.10s is lower than the ratio with the factory 5 spped and 3.55s

Well that's all dandy but I wouldn't have a clue how much or who could do that for me. I will tell you one thing I don't think now I could give up my extra pick up because now I believe I have what it takes to pretty much kill any poor bastard at a red light except for the supercharge guys and corvettes.

Does the driveshaft need to be removed for a gear install? I'll admit that I have no idea what's going on in that rear end, i'm not sure if the pinion flange/gear/etc. needs to be removed or not. Since I have an aftermarket shaft I don't really want a shop removing and reinstalling it.
