Default Re-badging

OK TO EVERYONE READING I am not doing anything like this to my car IT IS MEANT FOR discussion, stop directing it to me. I want to get civil debate here!!
What are your thoughts on rebadging?
Good or not. Hey lets keep it clean and keep motors out of this. What are your rules you would follow if you were going to tribute a past/present car. Why is this considered so wrong, isn't it you car to do what you want with?
And just one last wrench thrown into the mix, if the model isn't made yet is it ok then...IE MACH 1, Bullit, Grande....etc.

Please once again keep it clean and limit the direct insults!

I'm more of an unbadging fan. I certainly don't understand rebadging.

WTF is re-badging? Not sure what it is, but I would take off my GT emblem and put something else like a "281" or a "pony". But I wouldnt ever put a "cobra" one or something I'm not.

Looks like you answered your own question. SO why is a pony ok on a GT? Is your GT a true PONY?

Errmmm, what?

Yes a GT is a true "Pony". The Pony emblem indicates a Mustang, not a V6 (as seen on the steering wheel and centercaps of the GT)

A Mach 1, Boss, or Cobra emblem is exactly what it says.

Don't pose. Not cool.

Cloneing & rebadging are 2 different things. Cloneing is making a replica of another car, old or new. That includes body style, badging & over all appearance. It can be a modified caror built from scratch.Rebadging is just that, changing the emblems/ badges.

Cloneing- Must be designated a clone & not passed off as authentic. Ok by me, especially the classics.

Rebadging- YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOUR SELF!!!!!!!!!!!! Go buy a Honda or something that wont embarrass the rest of us stang owners. [:'(]

I know where your going, I should have stated the whole package, CLONE with badges....

So I heard the above say that putting a Pony on a GT is ok...why? Is that what came on the car? Aren't you trying to pass it off as something it isn't???? For the S197 the PONY is a package so its in a sense a model so you are putting on fake bages right?
Is a GT owner bending the rules by putting on GT500 Rocker stripes?....sorry no offense to the GT guys just a question.
Listen I'm just debating here, I am not taking one side or the other. My car is stock badged and it will always stay that way. I am not attacking anyone, please don't think that!

I really do not like the word "clone" when used to describe a car. I consider my 1967 Mustang a GT Replica. My coupe was not a GT from the factory, but adding the handling package (HD springs and sway bar) along with the fog lights and stripe and it bacame a "GT". It already had PS, PDB, V8 and a 4 speed. Oh I have done many other upgrades to it, but that is another story. It would be wrong to pass it off as a "real" GT, and I will never do that, but I just like the look of a GT Mustang. fd First pic is how it looked when I got it in 1975, second pic is a GT Replica in 1984.

A car can't "become" another model! VIN #'s or Codes don't change.

Personally, just in my opinion, I find it much more acceptable to do a custom conversion, with modern engine, transmission, FI, stereo, power seats and whatever you want, than to do a fake clone. Even if presented as a clone it just isn't right. It's like an ugly girl wearing a mask of a hot babe! That's going to fool nobody who isn't drunk!
Better to do the surgery!
