If anyone is interested in the torque numbers, I'll watch the program again (I PVR'ed it) and post them.

The Ford Racing Catalog gives overall dimensions of all the Ford motors:

4.6 SOHC:

28" Length
26" Height
25.625" Width

429/460:

32" Length
26" Height
26" Width

Our S197's can easily fit the 429/460 engine under the hood.......in fact it wouldn't look any larger than the 4.6. A 302/351 would look tiny in there.

The FR 514ci crate engine is definitely on my short wish list. $6000-7000 for a blower on the 4.6or $8000-9000 for a 650hp 514ci SCJ.......

yea and no traction because the car is allready noseheavy with the 4.6 so you're gonna be hauling around that huge motor with less traction in the back....

Not sure what a fully dressed 4.6 engine weighs with the a/c and all......but the 514 weighs 670lbs fully dressed. You're right, that's a lot of weight over the nose. But suspension mods will correct traction problems. The bigger problem is balance.......that's a lot of nose weight when entering a corner. Going to a 429/460 BB will definitely make the S197 a straight-line car only.

But the sound that 514 will make could never be rivaled by a blown 4.6........sometimes the 'cool factor'is more important than overalldriving dynamics....... for some people.
