modding an Auto
Here is where I got my info,
All Mustang Performance (AMP) told me that CAI, gears, and a tune would get my auto in the same league as a manual, since the auto looses power in the transfer (?) as well as the extra weight.
A technician at Mel Pearson Ford Dealership (who claimed to have a modded up mustang himself) related to me that the auto is about 20% less powerful than the manual for the same reasons AMP listed.
All this has me down in the dumps. I can live without the extra fun of shifting gears but the thought of another (Cheaper!) mustang beating me easily is a little tough to deal with.
I have never been a motor-head nor have I moddified any car. I was really starting to look forward to it, but now I'm just not sure.

Automatic rides suck.........
Look at my sig....
Dude, with those parts you will blow away a stock manual and be neck to neck with a manual with the same parts (maybe even beat them, unless they shift like Jeff Gordon - which in most cases they don't) If they do have the same parts and do shift very well, then they will probably beat you by half a car. This car is a beast anyway you look at it. Get a manual if you're going to the track.....if you're dragging, then you're set with the Auto. Peace andbe happy that you have a hot looking ****!

Relax, autos are good. I had several cars on a stock manual GT by 60mph when I had a CAI, LT's, x-pipe, and a custom tune. You will be amazed with how different the car is with just a CAI and tune.

I have an 07 Auto and i just love my car. C & L cai + VMP tune, UDP´s and BBK TB, the car seems to be another one! It even chirps from 1 - 2 and 2 -3 in drive.
Can't wait to have more mods hehe
OOOHHHHHhhhh,
So its not 20% parasitic loss to none. It's 20% to 15%, hell that makes a whole lot of difference !!!
BTW, sorry if I sound like an idiot, im just real new to modding (just look at the picture below !!!!!). But, thanks to this forum, it sounds like I'm gonna start.

If you want to feel convinced yourself, go rent a GTH for a day, for 99 bucks.......Thengo back and talk to your shops.....

Yeah a CAI should get you 25 or 30 HP at the wheels. That's quite a jump from stock. If these guys really told you that an auto with all these mods will only KEEP UP with a manual, you need to not buy from them or even talk to them. The CAI/tune effects the engine, not the transmission (with the exception of shift pressure and MAYBE shift points...although I can't find shift points on my SCT)
Any engine loses power from the crank to the wheels, it doesn't matter what kind of transmission it is. People claim that a manual loses a bit less, but I have no real information toverify that statement either way. Even if you lose a bit less in a manual, remember that you have to take the time to take your foot off the gas, apply the clutch, shift the gear, and then hit the gas again.
I don't care what anyone says, and there are millions of manual Mustang drivers who will disagree and attack me...but YOU CANNOT SHIFT A MANUAL FASTER THAN AN AUTOMATIC. Go to the race track and take a look in all the race cars. They're running autos.
Gears make a huge difference, as they get you in optimum RPM range faster. This goes for both manual and auto.
Let the manual guys shift all day long and think they are faster. I don't care. The point of my post is that engine horsepower is EXACTLY THE SAME in these cars (within a few HP)

I actually have one of each, and they are a completely different driving experience, sometimes I like the feel of slamming the gears back and forth, and sometimes I like the feel of IT doing that, that being said, TUNE the AUTO.....it's already an amazing car, tune and intake just makes it better!
word to my moms....LOL (goofy mood, sorry)

The CAI will ad some hp but what really wakes up the auto is the tune. Get a tune from Brenspeed or Doug at B A M A C H I P S and even without the CAI it is a completely different animal. If I were you I would stay clear of that shop as they don’t seem to know what they are talking about.
