How about getting a fully manual automatic. Then you have the best of both worlds. A sort-of clutchless manual. The Hurst shifter's pretty cool too.

Stick with the auto. I have an auto with TC, 4:30 and Vortech. It's absolutely amazing!!!!

Just to give you an idea. I raced both my cars against each other. I don't shift worth **** so I rode in my GT and a good friend of mine drove the Shelby. We went from a dig and shut off at 150mph. The Shelby was at least 100 to 150yards behind me by the time we reach 150. The potential of the auto is there just mod the hell out of it.

So, I went to AMP (all mustang performance) a totally kick **** shop specializing in mustangs.

I got smart on CAI, tunes, and maybe gears for my 05. However, it seems that all of these mods would only make it as fast as a manual.

Should one bother to mod an auto or simply trade it in for a manual ?? I mean is it a waste of time and money since you can only get as fast as the other stangs come stock ?

I can't explain it, but this is interesting...hope it's accurate

When you make performance modifications, you generally shift the engine's torque curve upward into a higher rpm range. Therefore, you need a converter with a higher stall speed so that you can launch the car in the fat part of the powerband.

"If the stall speed isn't high enough, the car won't be making power when you launch and you'll bog off the line. If your setup is really mismatched, the motor may even want to stall whenever you attempt to shift into gear at idle.

"So, a higher-stall converter will improve acceleration by allowing the car to launch at an rpm where it is making power."

The key is to match the converter to the motor and to the entire vehicle in question.

I had the dynotuner in New Orleans call the transmission people on Long Island, while the thing was being built, and a 4000 rpm setting was agreed upon.

Hey the way I look at it is if you like an auto get it. If you like the stick get it! Mod the hell out of whatever you get and have fun and tell some good stories along the way. I dont see to much bashing on the thread but you are right it does happen. Screw what others think and life will be much easier an you will be happier. Everybody has an opinion...some accurate and some ridiculous! Regardless it doesn't always mean they are right unless they can back it up with factual info. I have driven sticks since before I got my license and just like having the feeling of total control of the car and for me I get bored with a auto after a while and lazy......JMO take it for what its worth J

Are you talking about fast as in top MPH or how quiclky you get to the top MPH.

The Automatic Transmissionshift scheduling and shift pressurescan be programmedto suit your liking or needs.
The torque converter can be programmed to lock at a desiredRPM. Mystock converteris programmed to lock at about 2200rpm.

The Automatic Transmission, I believe, has HP limitaions (450hp)

The Automatic Transmission will never miss a shift. Us oldfolks like this feature.

Get with a good tuner - they can fix you up.
