The $119 eBay kit isn't the OEM 08 Mustang HID system, far from it.

RE: 2008 HIDs
schapman: Usually people post that they bought some HID kit from eBay for $120 and it's generally the cheap Chinese kits. The HIDs in the photograph are the 2008 HIDs. It looks like someone sold them dirt cheap. Let us know how they fit into your GT. Based on the info I found, the halogen connector should fit and the HID assembly should bolt right in.
The problem is, how much brighter are the OEM HIDs versus the halogens? The D3R capsule is rated for 2800 lumens, but the actual light coming out of the reflector assembly is going to be slightly difference. D1S capsules are rated for 3200 lumens, 9005-9006 are about 800-1000 lumens.
Based on my research, FMVSS 108 severely restricts the output of factory equipped HIDs. The 2007 Cadillac Escalade HIDs (D1S) are within 4,000-5,000 candela of the 2006 Chrysler 300's halogen (9005 and 9006), hardly 2-3 times brighter. I'd have to ask if it was truly worth $1000+ to upgrade to HIDs on the Mustang. So far I have heard numerous comments that the 08 Mustang HIDs were marginally better than the H13 halogens, and a far cry from the BMW/Audi/Porsche projector HIDs.

RE: 2008 HIDs
I think the comments about the HIDs being marginally better than the H13 Halogens are from members who have not had experience with these new HIDs and feel that they should put their two cents in anyway. I can tell you from experiences that there is a "night and day" difference between these two kinds of lights. Although I cannot speak for the higher end cars with HIDs, I can say I am very happy that I decided to go with the HIDs rather than the normal halogens.

RE: 2008 HIDs
Do you find that the 08 OEM HIDs project light out farther than the halogens, or perhaps just project whiter light all around the vehicle and more onto the ground (better road coverage)? Based on the NHTSA reports for the Cadillac Escalade HIDs, the maximum candela is marginally better than halogen, suggesting the lighting "improvement" comes from the beam pattern and color temperature. I'd have to drive a 08 with HIDs to make a better assessment.
