I have an '05 V6 Vert with an Auto & it's quick enough - not as quick as the GT but that doesn't matter. When I want more power the mods are around to do it. It's all about power to weight ratios - the GT would struggle to match up to my 2003 MG TF160 (4cyl, 1800cc,160hp) but only because it's a heavier vehicle. That's definitely not a crticism folks but I've driven both and the MG has just over half the power but just under half the weight - the laws of physics do the rest.

I think that one thing that is clear from the posts on this thread is that we each love the car we bought V6, V8, Stick, Auto, Coupe or Vert - so long as you love what you've got who cares?
I thought the last REAL MG was made in the early 80's? Is that TF160 a front wheel drive? Wow, must be fast if it'll run mid 13's in the 1/4 mile like a GT..........

The last MG made at the old Abingdon factory was in 1980 - the venerable MGB. The MG marque went on though with several models through the 80's, 90's & 00's. Check out the MG Maestro Turbo for a quick 80's car.

However the TF was mid engined and rear wheel drive. I did state that to say it was quicker was not a criticism - bear in mind that the UK runs 95 octane fuel as the low standard & 98 octane is also freely available. This means that the cars there can run much higher compression ratios than this side of the pond, on pump gas anyway.

Drag racing is not that big in the UK so I couldn't tell you quarter mile times for a TF but as I said I've driven both & the TF is quicker both on paper (0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds, top speed electronically restricted to 142mph - derestricted butotherwise stock TF's have run at over 155mph)& in the real world. Again, for clarity, this is NOT a criticism of the Mustang (V6 or V8) & I do hope that no-one takes it as such - I loved my MG & I love my Mustang.

Just as a point of interest the 4.6l Mustang engine from the '05 Mustang made it into an MG. The MG ZT260 received the current Mustang engine in a de-tuned state of 260hp. The ZT & ZT-T 260's were front engined, rear wheel drive family sedan & station wagon models that were produced in 2004 & 2005.

OK....Here are the numbers from the CD test. Both cars are 2007's, both cars are 5-speed manuals. Both are coupes. Both are within 137 pounds (the GT being heavier). Can't getmuchcloser than that!

2007 Mustang GT

Curb weight: 3575 lb

C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 5.1 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 13.0 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 25.6 sec
Street start, 5-60 mph: 5.6 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 13.8 sec @ 103 mph
Top speed (drag limited): 147 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 170 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.89 g

FUEL ECONOMY:
EPA city/highway driving: 17/25 mpg

-----------------------------------

2007 Mustang V6

Curb weight: 3439 lb

C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 6.5 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 18.5 sec
Zero to 110 mph: 23.1 sec
Street start, 5–60 mph: 6.9 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 15.3 sec @ 93 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 113 mph
Braking, 70–0 mph: 183 ft
Roadholding, 200-ft-dia skidpad: 0.81 g

FUEL ECONOMY:
EPA city/highway driving: 19/28 mpg

If you take a look, the numbers between the cars are not even close. The only category that the V6 shines in is the MPG. Yes, the V6 runs as well as my 1987, 1988, and 1990 GT's did from 0-60, but they are a tich slower in the 1/4 mile. Yes, the V6 looks good and is less expensive to insure with better MPG. But, performancewise there is NO comparison. The numbers above show it, and I have driven a V6 manual and know it would not hold a candle to my V8 manual, stock to stock. People who post the V6 is as fast stock to stock (or even faster ) don't know what they are talking about. It can't happen by numbers racing on paper, and it does not happen in the real world. Buy what you want, it is your money and your happiness is what counts.

I don't think anyone said theyperformed the same - or even "almost" the same, but it is interesting to see the hard numbers.I did say that I didn't feel much of a difference between the 07 GT vert autoand the07 V6 stick, but I also conceded that it was a "test drive", not a day at the track. The raw performance data is indisputable. At least things have come a long way from the late 80's/early 90's when you had to choose between a 5.0 or a 2.3. The V6 is now in a different category than what "base models" used to be.UK Pony said it all, as long as we love what we got who cares?

I had a 2005 4.0 auto vert for 17 months (Iwanted to try a vert and the GT was too expensive). I added a jba exhaust and CAI and tune. It was the fastest car I had in my driving life....until now. There is no comparaison between the two cars the difference in torque is fantastic.... Loved the V6 I love even more the GT

07 Windveil, things certainly have come a long way since the 90's 2.3l base model I have one of those too and it feels sooooo good to get out of the 4 into the 6 . Out of interestare there any performance stats out there for the 2.3? I know it has 88hp (NA engine) but that's about it.

BTW - I love the Windveil Blue color, my 1st Mustang (an '05 V6 Coupe) was that color & it looked so good on the car.

From all the replies to this thread, I can certainly conclude on thing. Irregardless of what model each of us may own, we do seem to all share one thing in common: We all love our Mustang, be it a 5spd coupe, auto GT, V6 convert, whatever it is. That in itself says something

Very true. I know one thing....................after having a GT, I could/would never buy a 6 banger. No slam or trash talk intended, just fact.

I rented a V6 also... Definately a big difference from the GT. Felt more likea regular car than a sports car. I personally don't have anything against my fellow stanging V6, but was certainly surprised at the difference.

Of course whats the point in selling a more expensive version if its barely better than the other version....
The V6 Mustang is not considered a SPORTS CAR. check with all the insurance companies.

This thread is like having THIS conversation....

I ate a very large apple yesterday, but today I ate an orange and the flavors were very very different.

in nutshell we buy, for several reason.

Mine was price first, and speed second. If I could afford the GT model I would buy it. BUT with all the tickets I would have gotten, would make it worse...
