RE: How easy is it to install a shorty antenna?
I got a shorty for 20 bucks online. I kept my original one off the Stang to put on my Explorer. It looked better with the black one than silver. This is one mod I can move from truck to car.. the silver antenna does not look bad on my Vista blue either.. except that it is still the same length as the original one!

Beware,I had a bad experience attempting to replace my stock ant. with a shorty ant. All i can say is what a nightmare! I tried to take the stock ant. off and ended up poking myself in the eye and then as i was holding my eye a big gust of wind came and the darn thing started whipping me like a jockey whips a horse. Finally I grabbed the thing and slowly twisted it out and layed it on the ground. I took the shorty ant. in hand and stepped torwards the car and slipped on the stock ant. like a wet banana and up-ended myself. In the process of falling down I just so happened to lose grip of the shorty and it flew across the street and went down the water drain at the curb! I went back to the stock ant. and noticed i bent the thing like a cabinet square and scratched the heck out of it! Now I am out of an ant! I made an appointment with ford to have them put in a new one! DONT TRY THIS AT HOME!
