RE: Aluminum hood corrosion issue ..05' mustangs
i had an 03 explorer that had the corrosion. it was like most people on the front of the hood.
i took it into the dealership and they fixed it no questions asked.
it was pretty much as good as new. i couldn't tell it had work done on it.
i don't know about the long-term reliability, though.
i took pics ofthe corrosionbut i think i deleted them since i tradedthe explorerin on my mustang.

i live in indiana so we see it all weather wise. the thing with my explorer though was that it was a garage queen that was always kept pristine and i only put 16k miles on it fortwo and half years i had it.

Not noticed this on mine. I'll check next time I take it out.
What mileage / weather conditions are the cars with problems?

It may be caused by a defective glue !
A saw a thread about 6 months ago for similar issue inside door panels, it turn out to be from a bad batch of glue (which they now used to put these pannels together) that started to bublle with time. The thread that I saw mentionned about the dealer scraping the old glue and resealing the seams and re-paint.
But there was no rust...
Might be good to test before...

My hood has 2 small bubbles on the front corners where it meets the fender. I didn't even notice until I was doing a really meticulous wax job over the weekend...

I have these too, but it doesn't look like corrosion so much as bubbling seam sealer or whatever.
It hasn't gotten any worse, and since it's underneath, I'm not too worried about it, but a steel hood would be great since I have a few small dimples in my aluminum hood from some freaky hail storms this summer.

O.K.,here's what Ford is going to do on my GT.They are going to fix the affected area.I agreed, but also Itold the service manager that my concern is more bubbling occuring down the road.say after the warranty? He said paint issues are 5 years-50K . My car has 33K on it now,so I'm gonna try and get it extended even more.I will update as I know more. I really didn't want to change hoods because I have a Shaker..........more work!
