Default Arizona Gear Installation Question

I have decided to get the Brenspeed C&L CAI and Tune package, along with the 3.73 Gears. I believe I can do the CAI and tune myself, but the gears... no way. Anyone know a good shop in the Phoenix (Mesa) Arizona area that would be a good choice? This is the first car I actually care about, so I don't really know any good shops - I'd rather go to one that has good reviews than to just call around and go to the cheapest.

I've heard good things about this place

http://www.ampperformance.com/

They are a bit pricey but they specialize primarily in Mustangs.

Holy cow, I just realized they are three blocks down from my office!?! I'll have to check them out!

AMP is insanely overpriced. Anyways, you'll find in Phoenix, and where I am in Tucson, that you won't get a good deal on gear installs. The lowest Ive seen is $450, and that was in Tucson. Everyone else wants around $500-$600 for install alone. Its absurd compared to other state prices but here in AZ thats just how it is.

Thanks for the info guys, I called a few shops, and you were right - install is between 500 and 600 wherever I call, if I provide the gears, install kit and oil - ouch.

I called Ford to see if they do installs and how much it would be. The accessories guy offered me a deal - I'm curious what you all think.

He offered the FR2 pack (comes with Air Intake, 3.73 Gears, Shorty Headers, Premium Oil Filter and a Tune) along with the mufflers and... forgive me here - I forget what he said - an X something to go with the mufflers. Parts and installation for 2995 - and he would give me a rental while they did the work - and it keeps the warranty intact (Not super important, but nice to have).

The parts:
Muffler Kit 529.00
X (something): 129.00
CAI & Tune: 649.00
Gears: 259.00
Gear Install Kit: 40.00
Shorty Headers: 359.00
Total for parts is just under 2k, install is about 1k.

Seems worth it to me - but just getting into this game, I wanted to know what the "experts" here think

hahaha....give me 2000 of that please!!

That is rediculous!!
the mufflers are like 280 shipped from ninosport
the gears are about 200 for FRPP
the tune/cai is "conservative" to say the least and costs about 100 more than B ama or Brenspeed
x pipe is a good price
and the headers do nothing for our mustangs really....you need LTs to see any real gains.

sorry but you really need to read some more on the boards and then go back and laugh at the ford dealer!!

2995 is ridiculous. The only thing that might be worth it in that deal is the warranty, and that might even be a stretch.

You have some good points in there - and you are definitely right when you say I have some more reading to do. I've been looking around for a couple months - but being brand new to the whole thing - it is an aweful lot of information to digest.

I decided to stick with my original plan, getting the 3.73 gears - ford will get me the gears and install them for 600 - which after calling around to find a price on installation, sounds like a good price. So many places wanted over 500 just to install - not counting the gears themselves.

Wow looks like I caught this in time. I got mine done at a place called Chucks spped and RV center. They have been in the bus since the 60's and have several 60's muscle cars there. If I can remember install was 4 something. This was with Royal Purple fluids. Happy with install and they promised no gear wine. I do have a very slight wine I just havent taken it back to them. They are at 2923 W Weldon Ave in Phoenix. Worth the drive in my eyes. 602-266-5101

Awesome - thanks for the info.

Edit: Checked out their website, they certainly sound like they know what they are doing, I think I'll give them a call.
