I replaced my steering wheel w/ the IUP leather one, and I followed that power up procedure. I didn't have any problems, I believe if the fuse is not replaced prior to connecting the battery, the SRS system will not fully power up.

No codes. If you leave the battery connected and turn the key on with the airbag unplugged you will get a code.
It's a really easy job. 2 screws and 1 bolt.
