What Octane do you run?

using a higher octane fuel will cause the computer to adjust your timing.you will gain, just nothing noticeable.
on a related note, dont use discount gas. it gets blown out from the big name guys who couldnt get rid of stuff that was sitting around. it may have started as a quality 93 octane, but it sat forever and is probably under 90 by the time they put it in their 93 pump.

Thecomputer has no way of knowing what octane you are running. As long as you are running enough octane for the way the engine is tuned, anything more is a waste. If the car is tuned for 87 and does not detonate then the computer does nothing but run as normal. Put in 89/91/93 or whatever and the computerdoes nothing as it does not sense detonation. It will NOT advance the timingon its own whenyou use these higher octanes as it hasno way of knowing these fuels are in the tank. This can only be done through a "tune" where the tuner tells the engines computer what the parameters are based on the octane the tuner is tuning for.
Here is one exception: Lets say you car is designed to run on 87 octane and is stock. Lets say the same car is out of tune for some reason and is experiencing detonation with 87 octane fuel. This is about the only time running a higher octane fuel will benefit as the detonation with the 87 octane is retarding the timing. Running higher octane will allow the computer to run at the proper setting for 87 octane, but it will NOT give you more power than if the car were stock and in good tune. It will only bring the power back to stock (assuming the timing is still set as stock).
The only good running a higher octance fuel doesis allow you to TUNE the car for more power. This is what tuners due when you add the CAI, etc. Otherwise you are wasting you money.

All octane is is the fuels resistance to detonation. The higher the number, the more resistant to detonation.
