Default Looking for neutral safety switch on Trans?

I'm getting a remote start/alarm for my car and need to know if our cars have a neutral safety switch on the transmission. The reason I ask is: if it does then I can hook my remote start to my manual trans. safely, and if not I have to buy a $100 DEI 689m which is a bypass that only allows remote start in neutral position. Thanks

No they do not have a neutral safety switch, actually very few cars do nowadays. When I install them on manual cars I always hook up the neutral safety wire to the parking brake so the car wont start unless the brake is engaged. I have never used a 689m and I do believe dei does not supply them anymore, probably due to insurance reasons with manual cars and remote starts.

The PCM looks for the clutch to be depressed in a S197 manual.
Nothing else. No neutral safety switch on the tranny.
Only a reverse light switch as per the electrical shop
manual for an 07 stang.

Well my installer said he could hook it up without the 689m, but then some people say that is a big liability since if it was in gear it would then start and drive off. I will see if DEI sells the 689m and if not I'll just have my installer hook it up to my ebrake. Thanks

Yeah thats the issue...liability. I have heard horror stories of cars remote starting and lunging forward and hitting other cars. I only do it for people that I know and will not do it for customers just for that reason. You just have to be sure that you always leave your car in neutral.

I have remote start on my auto jeep and there is no way I'd be willing to put it on my manual stang. I know I'd leave it in gear accidentally some time and once is all it takes. Not to mention Ford recommends putting it in gear when it is parked ... so yea, there's that.

Well I found out DEI does sell the 689m-neutral remote start bypass. So I will be ordering it with my python 990.
