Default Please explain wheel off-set

Not quite sure the true definition of this term. Is it in relation to the front tires compared to the back or is in relation to the factory location. The look i am looking for is to have 9's front and 10's rear but dont want the rear tires to track wider than the front! I personally like the factory tire location but would like the rear wheels wider but tucked inward torwards the differential. Almost like a tubbed out drag car! Can someone please explain the terms and if anyone has pics, i would love to see them! Thanks!

He is a good pictorial of it

Custom wheels, chrome wheels, alloy rims - BIGCUSTOMWHEELS

You can change the offset and see how the wheel setup changes with it

Factory offset has the rear wheels out farther than the front wheels anyway.

offset is how far off center is the mounting surface of the rim. If it's offset towards the inside edge of the rim it's negative, if it's offset towards the outside edge of the rim it's positive. obviously if the mounting surface is right in the center of the rim it has a 0 offset.

Ever see a car or truck driving around with rims/tires that stick way out compared to stock? That's because they bought rims not made for the car with a negative offset.

Actually the 18" Factory is 50 mm the 17 " is 45 mm

I feel the off set is not aggressive enough...The tire should be even with the fender ..that looks best..

Mine are 38 mm front 18 x 9 42 mm rear 18 x 10..they line up with fender perfectly..
