I'd suggest you mod your original one. Replacing your whole factory plate with the long, stainless steel sill is too easy! Wouldn't you rather have something unique? I bet there's a metal shop that can punch out the lettering. Then cut in the light to the door's switch.
Just be sure to add the 6 stripes to each side. I think it makes them look the way they should have come from the factory like this:

Great Idea!! I think I'm going to contact a local metal shop this week.

Do you think an Autobody shop would be able to cut out the letters too?

I'm trying to think of how to accomplish this...You could use some LEDs and some smoked plastic in a thin light box that sits behind the smoked plastic...Simply cut out the lettering with a Dremel tool on your own to do it. Building & wiring up the light box, however...THAT I'm not sure of, because I'm certainly no electrical genius by any means.

I keep thinking of like, EL pads (electroluminescent strips) that's really thin and would serve your purpose perfectly...Except that I don't know where you'd get some that would be thin & long like that...

found a company that would make the strip any size you need - let me know how it turns out, it's a neat idea.

Dude! Thank you so much for that link! That was the last thing I needed!

I will let you know how this whole thing works out. And add a writeup if all goes swimmingly. LOL

UPDATE - The Ford Dealer from BradBarnett forums just emailed me and said that this lighting mod is going to be a factory accesory option in the upcoming 2008 Ford Accesories Catalog!

He said he could get me some by December. I will keep you guys updated.

This is a picture of the installation manual:
