Default RE: valve cover replacement

I mean afterall if the warranty work is done by the dealer doesn't the dealer get reimbursed by Ford Motor company? At least for the part?

How could this happen? Do you remember when it did? (no big deal if you did.) But if some shop did this, they should fix it. I agree on looking for a different dealer. There's got to be one somewhere that will file it under design flaw/warranty work/future customer relations and fix it under warranty for you.

The dealer gets paid at amanufacturer specified hourly rate (less than they normally charge a customer), and some manufacturers also have a "book time" thats shorter than the book time for a customer. They also dont get any profit on the parts.

Example:
Warranty repair - 2 hours @ $40 hour = $80

Private Repair - Dealer Markup of $60 on the Valvecover($160 Retail) + 3 hours @ $80 hour = $300

Most dealers prefermaking $300 instead of $80 for the same job.

Some dealers have also been known tocharge both the customer and the manufacturer thus making $160 (Ford paid the wholesale cost) + $80 + $240 = $480 on the job.
We had a local dealer who got his dealership taken away when he got caught doing this a few years ago.
