Default Cheeeeeap sub box

Ok so I saw the post about the fiberglass sub box and I thought to myself Hey I could do something like that.... I have seen the available sub enclosure options for our cars and said screw that, Im not paying 300+ for a box, So I decided to make a trip to the local lumber yard. I picked up an 8x4 sheet of 3/4 MDF board anda tuberubber silocone (sp). I pretty much went by the guy's pictures to make my box only I didnt readily have the materials and fiberglass to make what he did. Keep in mind I had total cost on my mind the whole time. I was on a mission to spend as least as possible. (wifes been on me pretty hard about spending money on the car) I had a brand new JL sub sitting upstairs from a previous vehicle (which only saw a total use of less than 10 hrs so its pretty much new. I got onJL's website and got the exact dimensions of the box for the correct airspace for my specific sub, made the box and boom theres my sub box. Now I needed to make the front portion of the box which covers up the regular sub box and ties it all in and makes the set-up look factory. I measured out the trunk making sure I cut the wood bigger than needed incase I had to trim down, after a few test fits, it fit like "butta". After I got the fit right I covered it with speaker box carpet ( I had this left from a previous box) This stuff matches the trunk carpet almost to a T. So Im thinking of keeping everything factory looking, no fancy setup, just a nice clean sleek install. Keep in mind I still have the amp to hook up, (the amp was gave to me so no cost there) We all know amps and wires are ugly, then it hit me, "hey why dont I mount the amp on the back of the cover board, I had just enuff room to mount it too. The final install came out great, cant see a wire one (unless you let down the rear seats). Keep in mind I am not a professional and dont claim to be one either. I was just trying to count pennies and have something a little different at the same time.... So here is my end result. I think it came out pretty decent

Box finished, moc placement and no carpet

The amp tucked nicely out of sight

The finished product

Total cost

3/4 MDF board-- $28.00
Tube of rubber silicone-- $4.00
Sub-- freebie
Amp-- freebie
Carpet-- freebie
Amp Kit--$18.00

Grand Total of $50.00

What amp kit are you using that cost $18? Hopefully it includes:
Fuse + Fuse holder
16'+ 8awg power wire
5' 8awg ground wire
16' remote turn-on wire
Connection Hardware

Generally a simple kit like this will run $60 on the low end, and range up to whatever you want to spend on it.

awesome! false walls are really easy and make for a clean install. I would have put body colored vinyl on that inset to make it a little more custom like I did in my first car , but carpet looks good too.
I did an etched plexi in my fake wall backlit with LED's

I have all that, ( I forgot to mention My buddy owns a stereo and aftermarket parts store )

as far as going with a different color vinyl, yeah that would have looked good but it wasnt cost effective... I already had all the carpet. Later on if I think its just to plane I can take it apart and cover over it with something to give it contrast
