Default Removing axle counterweights

Anyone know why the rear axle has the counter weights on the ends & what happens if they are removed besides sheding some unsprung weight. I am installing J&M products LCA relocation brackets & they have you remove them & use the hole to mount the bracket. I'm guessing they absorb some vibes or smething.

you have it correct, you can remove them also. See tacobills posts as he had them on his setup and they were removed

Aren't they for balancing?

I think I will pull them off tomorrow & go for a ride before I put the lca brackets on & see if I notice anything. Then do the brackets if all is well. I will post the weight of the things I bet its a lot.

I removed mine and they made the rear end justatiny bitbouncier but since I have an Eibach Sportline suspension which is stiff as a board any extra bounce actually helps the ride. Losing the unsprung weight doesn't hurt either.

After reading Tacobill's write up It seems that all S197's did not come with them so I guess I'll add it up to weight savings like my driveshaft.
