Default RE: What a s/c might break

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for putting their two cents in. I'm still unsure on whether or not I should go to the 475. I know a lot of you say it probably won't break anything, but there will always be something in the back of my mind that tells me I should just play it safe and go with the 435. But I haven't completely made up my mind yet.

I did have one last question though...

On Brenspeed's site, they list numerous options on the Saleen s/c. They have the 435hp for $5,129.99 and the 475 for $5,849.99.
But, theres also a Stage 2 that has 485 for about $250 less. Obviously, the packages don't look similar, but what's the difference here. The Brenspeed one has a tune and a different CAI?

The Stage 2 has no warranty, and the 475 HP Saleen has the Saleen warranty. It seems to me the warranty peace of mind would be worth $250 to you.

As far as getting warranty work at non-Saleen Ford dealers, we have no Saleen dealer here, and it's not a big deal. They just call somebody at Saleen for authorization instead of somebody at FoMoCo. I don't think they really care as long as they get paid, but then I sometimes read on here about dealers who are complete dicks and try to deny warranty work as if it's their own money that's getting spent, so ymmv.

There are two ways to approach upgrades in HP. My philosophy (for what it's worth!!) is to start from the back and work your way forward. Rear gears, heavy duty clutch packs, upgraded axles, then upgraded rear suspension. Then, driveshaft, loop, trans, clutch. Forged internals on the motor (rods, crank, caps, etc.), cams, then you're up to the S/C! By the time you reach the forced induction part of the equation, everything that can break in the driveline has been replaced with better parts, and you can go 550 - 600 or more if you wanted to. Sky's the limit.

On the other hand, you can roll the dice, go with the 475 kit, and see what happens. If something breaks, you pay to fix it. Figure that as a cost of doing business!
