RE: newbie question about shifting the 5pd mustang...
1st Gear is hardest for me - I always feel I rev it to much and ride the clutch during "normal" driving.
Also - I have never been able to just let off the clutch in 1st - wiyhout giving it gas - and it not stalling. Is this actually possible?

900 is too fast for an idle rpm unless you have a really loping cam. The 3.55 gears helped you some in getting rolling though.

When I had my intake/tune and 3.55 gears, my idle was around 900 rpm's. I would move forward letting off the clutch without the gas without stalling. Kinda nice in the Dunkin Donuts drive though and creeping traffic.

I know with other cars you can get it into first without applying any gas. My old nissan sentra would. I suspect just about any car will. But you have to let the clutch out so slowly that way - it's not practical. It's normal to have to give it some gas to get it into first from a standstill.

if i'm going from like a stop light, ican start off from about 900-1000rpm, and go from there, anything more then 1500 and your just sounding like your reving your car which some cops will pull you for.

I often am able to roll with only the clutch. You just need to feather it more. But once I start rolling I'm usually starting to get on it. Depends on the road conditions.
