I would consider a bolt-on also to be a part that replaces an external part without getting involved in an internal tear down like cams and gears.
+1 Have to agree with Retro on that.

What about headers, electric waterpumps, Coil over plugs? I would put cams in the internals section of mods
Bolt-ons are
Air intake (CAI, TB, spacer, CMCD)

Ignition (Coils and Plugs) (back in the day distributors, wires, coil, ignition box, ect)

exhaust (headers, Crossover, mufflers, and possible CAT delete) (I say crossover as it could be H, X, Strait pipes, or Pro-Chamber)

support systems (fuel, cooling, and electrical)

suspension(LCA's, UCA, Watts link, Braces, ect)

Driveline (Drive shaft, fly wheel, Brakes)

and finaly a tune (kinda)

What is not a bolt-on for most people

Gears, NOS, S/C, T/C, Boring,Stroking, forged inerds, engine swap
