I gotta do one of these!
I did a short stint on a track once with a real French race car driver. He took me from just going quickly to being able to throw the car into the corners.

I'll be happy to join anyone in SoCal if you want to split transpo and room costs up to Laguna Seca. Or Vegas?

And if your in europe make sure you hit up Nurburgring... one of the best experiences ever. Also I got to ride with a guy who tests RUF Porsches.... But unfortunately it was after I already took the stang around the track, I learned a lot from him though.

To "washburn085" and "ink003" - I've got a lot of references for you in the North East. The timing of this post is excellent, I've been researching HPDE events in the area for a couple weeks now:

http://www.wdcr-scca.org- Wash DC area SCCA region - they do HPDEs at Summit Point, 2hrs west of DC
www.myautoevents.com- a "sign up" site. A conglomeration of tons of events from all over the country. You can find many HPDEs in the Northeast.
www.dlbracing.com- another sign up site.
www.trackdaze.com- a commercial/for profit driving schoool (I'm leaning towards signing up for their Summit Point event in July)
www.beaverun.com - track in western PA, they do their own brand of drving schools
www.racingadventures.com - another for profit school with dates at Summit
www.nasanortheast.org - the Northeast region for NASA, lots of events at Pocono, Watkins Glen and the new NJ Motorsports Park
www.hookedondriving.com - for profit, events at several tracks in Northeast

I'm going to sign up for several events between now and Nov (end of the season), just figuring out which ones.

Hey, Bimmer. I ran the SCCA event in December at Barber and had a blast. Ran1/2 the day in a track prepped Miata and the other half in my (at the time) stock Mustang. Brakes faded and dealt with the same body roll you experienced but overall it did pretty well. I have upgraded the brakes with SS lines, high temp fluid, and Hawk HPS pads. Not sure the HPS's are enough for a track day, but we will see. I am signed up for the BMW run in May. Hope to see you there. I can't wait. Just keeping my fingers crossed for good weather.

RollTide87- I'll be there...I'm one of the guys that helps run the annual DE for the local Heart of Dixie chapter of the BMW club.
We have a full school this year with over 100 students in 4 categories.
What will you be in? I'll look for you in the paddock.

I'll be down under the main building. I'll either have the black Mustang GT (look for hood pins)
or the BMW 330Ci (heavily modified---silver, lots of track stickers and a big MUNICH SPORT in the back window.

Look me up and say "Hey"

A little off topic, but how do you find one of these schools?

And is it as worth it for an auto?

Hey Bimmer, I will probably be in the beginner or intermediate class. I will be in my black GT/CS. I will probably be parked up near the Speedsouth guys (some friends of mine) on the 2nd level of the paddock.

I've heard very good things from the Evolution driving schools from friends. They are autocross speeds, so a lot easier on brakes. they have a schedule on thier website of where they will be; they go all over the country.

It is very worth it for an auto as well.

ORIGINAL: ink003

i've been dying to take a course like this one of these days - does anyone know what's in the jersey area?
http://www.pdadrivingschool.com/

PDA driving school. They are probably the best in Jersey. I used to have a Vette, and I know a few corvetteforum.com Vette guys in the area (NY/NJ) who belong to PDA and they rave about them. PDA always hosts HPDE's at Lime Rock, Pocono, and Watkins Glen. Highly recommended!
