And there shouldnt be any whine period. If there is, its probably just that gears were set up wrong.

when does it whine?
When your on the gas or off the gas.
I've had it do both (first replacement of stock gears changed it) and must admit I would rather have it whine when off the gas, since that doesn't happen too often. The constant, faint whine can be a bit frustrating.

Oh, btw, Bullitt owners be sure to make sure you got the correct shifter. I heard people had been stealing and/or switching out the Bullitt's polished aluminum one with plain ones.
