Default Replacing upper strut mounts nessesary? Instal in 4 hours.

I've been reading several lowering spring install guides, and I'm about to do springs + dampers in 4 hours. I've been modifying my car visually for some time now and it looks great so this is the first step to the preformance end.

Anyway those guides I've mentioned recommend but say it's not nessesary to replace the upper strut mounts when installing lowering springs. According to the ford FRPP install guide the mounts are 1 time use and they are broken when you remove them. I'm talking about the part that is right under the strut cap that strut braces attatch to. It's under the cup of the body work and holds the spring in place.

I've read Taco Bill's write up and he reused them, but mentioned the problem caused. What happens is that when the car bottoms out on reused strut mounts, the stopper will no longer work so bottoms out can be rough or hit the wheel well.

I tend to go pretty rough over speed bumps as I'm always in a rush. So that describes my situation. Taking that into account, is it worth $68 for both mounts to you?

I've reused the factory mounts on my girlfriends car when lowering it, no problems. The bearings even came out of one of them, I just repacked it with grease and replaced the bearings. No problems. I'm planning on doing the same with mine.

Might as well use this to replace the TSB
upper strut mountbearings with the new improved mounts.
(8R3Z-18183-A) cost $58.23 each.

I can't tell you the dates but its my understanding Ford has redesigned the upper strut mounts at least once if not more times since 2005. So which mounts you have depend on the build date of your car. The symptoms are "popping" noises from the front suspension when encountering bumps. If you don't have any noises before the swap, chances are you won't have after.

the popping is the faulty bottoming-out caused by a reused strut cap or in this case one tht isn't working right. My car is an 06 so that could work well as it's 08 now. Thanks man.

Also the TSB number isn't a date but just looks like one.. I think. Guess that's my comeback for you.

Tell them your mustang "chuckles" in the front end
over bumps and road irregularities.
The TSB uses the term "Chuckle" as well.
Its the slop in the front upper
strut mount bearings that when the front end
becomes unloaded, the bearings will unload
and then reload causing the front end noise.
