Default Shaftmasters and the Saleen Short-Throw Adapter

It's been a while since I psoted anything, but I've got a couple of new mods (one piece DS and Xcal X3 w/ tunes from Brenspeed) going in so I thought I'd throw this one out there.

I installed the Shaftmasters 3.5" one-piece DS in last night. Man, what a difference!! No more thunks, clunks, or vibes. It even got rid of my 68-73 MPH vibration, which had bugged me since the day I drove her off the lot. Needless to say, it's money well-spent.

One issue I ran across during the install (following Taco Bill's write-up), was that the shaft was hitting my shifter with the Saleen short-throw adapter installed. I removed the adapter of course, but I hadn't seen that issue come up in any of the various posts I read. It was really strange going back to the stock feel (long and loose), but the new DS made up for it a hundred times over.

Looks like I'll be going the MGW route in the future. Or maybe something else if there's a better option out there.

Anyone care to comment on their experience with a one piece DS and the MGW or other shorties?

I have a 4" 1-piece DS with the Pro 5.0 and love it. No issues with hitting the shifter or anything. I don't understand how going to a 1-piece got rid of vibration, as thats why the stock DS weighs twice as much. It's filled with rubber to deaden vibrations/noises/harmonics.

Clunks and thunks were reduced because the two-piece has a lot of room to move at the middle joint. I moved it quite significantly by-hand before I loosened the first bolt. It makes sense that having one solid shaft vs two spearated by a CV joint would improve the rigidity of the overall assembly and transfer torque more smoothly.

On the vibe issue, I honestly think it's because the original stock shaft was not balanced perfectly. I had no vibration whatsoever from 0-67 MPH, very noticable harmonic vibes between 68-73, then no noticable vibes over 74MPH. Strange yes, but I've heard several people on the forum say the same thing.

No vibes up to 90 with the new shaft.

Looking for comments on aftermarket short-throw shifters and one-piece driveshafts. If you have this combo, please take a minute to let us know the pros/cons.

I know what you mean. I have the adaptor (and like it). But I just did the group buy for the spydershaft and also bought a new Hurst Billet shifter. I felt there was no way I want to keep the stock shifter after using the adaptor for a few years. I am waiting for the parts to come in, and then for the time to install everything.

If you're going with the 1-piece DS I highly recommend getting an adjustable UCA along with the replacement bracket. I installed my DS and UCA at different times and was amazed at the difference the UCA made.
