GT/CS Stripe Removal
ORIGINAL: Steve O Chap
I hear where you're coming from, but I didn't buy the CS for the side stripe...
I bought it for the front and rear facias and the two-tone leather interior...
Personally, the quality of the stripe reminds me of a Monet... good from afar, but far from good
Frankly, it doesn't matter to me if people can identify it as a CS or not...
It will look exactly the way it should as long as it's the way I want it to look... (my philosophical statement of the day)
Besides, it's a pain to wax around the stripe... [:@]

I bought mine for the same reason and I too am thinking of removing the stripe. It looks cheap and really does nothing for the car
heres what I think. On a red (or black)car, the stripes do not look good... Too washed out.. On another color car(white, grabber etc) the stripes look way better.I say to buy a new set of stripes and put em away and remove the ones on your car.. Your car will def look better without them.. The car will look outstanding without them...
I agree. gold stripes on a red or black car would be niceeeeee.. Frig calfornia. NJ rules!!

I been looking into buying a Mustang - a Black CS/GT - the Ford Mustang brochure sold me on the two tone Black/Parchment interior , but they didn't make it clear it was only available in the California Special. I want gold stripes over the car, but the side stripes would be too much... ( and I don't think they offer gold side stripes ) So I would remove them. Anyway, what's so special about California? I'm in Jersey!

Neither thecurrent front/rear fascianor the interior were a part of original California Special package. A mid height side stripe and side scoops were. Personally that's what makes it a GT/CS to me. Without those things, as minor as they may be, it's simply a GT with differentfascia's anda different interior.
Sure it's a late model car, but it's still rarer than a standard GT or even a GT500. Stripping down one of 7653 GT/CS's is the same to me as stripping down one of the original 4325 1968 GT/CS's and presenting it as a standard Mustang GT.
That said, it's certainly your car, not mine. I bought mine for very specific reasons, you bought yours for no less valid, but completely different reasons.
As to what's so special about California, sales of the Mustang in California were what kept the model alive in the early years. Lee Gray came up with theidea to build aspecificMustang inCaliforniato sell to California. That, at least partially, is why it's a California Special, not a New Jersey Special.

Van - great reasoning, well put! We all have our reasons for modifying our cars the way we do and I believe the Mustang was designed to be personalized.
Steve, Topbliss had a good idea, buy a new set of decals from Ford and if you ever want to you canput it back to original.

and before you remove the stickers take pics and good measurements of where the oem stickers are so that you can get them on exactly where the factory did.,. nothing worse then inproperly placed decals and emblems...

Wow, this thread is still alive?
Anyways, the wife nixxed the idea... so, I guess compromise is the word of the day. She let me get the car and now I'get' to leave the stripe on.
Oh well, it's still a real good looking car!
