the key-less entry remote stopped working on me. is this a common thing to happen if i keep on locking the car repeatedly while waiting at the doctor's office?

Take it apart and change the battery. You might have broken it.

AutoZone has a tester next to the battery display on the couner that
shows you if your RadioFrequency or Infared remote is working or not.
They will sell you a battery lickity split.
The owners manual shows how to replace it.

Find something else to play with at the doctors office.
