The MP3 CD thing would be great, if the Shaker read them well. What year is your car? I know in my 06 the player won't read anything that's burnt. And again... the ISDF73 is redesigned and does not cause computer errors in the S197.

If it causes dash errors it is not worth it - maybe an aftermarket unit is best. I have the Shaker 500 with 6 CD changer and I just use mp3s. So 200 mp3s X 6 = 1200 songs.

Mine is an 06. It reads about 90% of the mp3 cds I burn OK. It is a 6cd changer - not sure if the single cd ones read mp3s. I use Office Depot cds.

If your referring to thats where you buy the cd's, thats got nothing to do with if they work or not. If there is a brand of cd's called "Office Depot", I've never heard or seen them either.

It all depends on the "quality" of the cd AS WELL AS the program you use to make the mp3 cd. Try Verbatium cd's. They arent the best, but are fairly consistent, decent, and cheap. I now use only sony ones. They make some of the best blank cd/DVD's out there and if you dont buy them at a time that they are on sale, can be expensive too. If you are still having problems with cd's not working with either of those brands, you need to consider how you are making the cd to play in your car program wise. I suggest NERO. In all the time I've made cd's for cars, those two combinations typically yield a working mp3 cd. If you get NERO and have problems using it or are unfamilar with it, send me a pm or something and I can walk you through it.

In all the time I've had my 06 mustang (shaker 1000, 6 cd), I've only had one cd not work.....and it was in the parking lot of Best Buy and was a brand new cd I got in the store, not one I made. In the past, older mp3 players use to be very picky about what kinda made cd would work in them. Some were so sensitive that even the media color on the back side where the info is recorded use to make a difference between working or not. They have improved the technology enough now that I havent seen that problem in years.

Good luck.

Okay, so, since I was complaining abou the CDs, I've done some testing... Seems that the discs burnt at high speeds on a DVD/CD-RW drive don't work so well. When I pulled my old 16x10x40 CD-RW drive out of my Legacy box in the closet, and burnt a CD at 16x with it... they work perfectly. So, of you're having problems with the reading, and you're using a DVD drive to burn them... try an old CD drive instead. It might just save you some hassle, if you've got one laying around.

I burned these with Nero8 (same program as the ones that didn't work) on Memorex 52x 80min CD-R media. I also tried a burn on the same media using my DVD combo drive, and those didn't work. So, I'm guessing it comes down to the laser in the drive.

Sancho, the Peripheral unit that caused problems was the ISFD71 unit. It was a translucent white cased unit with a single input. Best Buy.com had it advertised as working with the 05-06s when I bought it, but Peripheral had pulled their support for it long before, and had overlays on the box taking the Mustang out of the list. Sorta got me pissed at Best Buy.

The ISFD73 (which I linked to) on the other hand is the new unit that works properly with the Shaker500/1000 in the Mustang. It's a black boxed unit with dual inputs. There is a specific dipswitch setting for using it with the 05-06 Shaker500/1000 which is (unfortunately) not listed in the manual, but is covered by the FAQ on their site. The build of the unit even appears to be of higher quality, and it has flashable firmware for any future updates that may be required.
my unit was translucent green (forgot the exact model #) and it was for any external device with 3.5mm plug, not just the ipod. i thought this model was better for me so that it would work with more devices.

if Peripheral really did fix the issue with a new model, then GREAT! like i said, it worked awesome up until my dash went haywire.
