Default OBDII S197 Gurus, Please help!!!

I am having to pass emissions on Saturday, and they will be using the OBDII scanner. This past weekend I failed because it said it was not in the ready state, a bunch of items were in the not ready state and I have to complete the drive cycle.

Now, the reason I had that problem is because I flashed Brenspeeds new tune that deletes the rear 02 sensor codes. I am allowed to only have one in the Not Ready state to pass the test. Will all of the other checks go through ready during this week by the time saturday comes around?

I take it you don't have to pass a sniff test? What year is your car, you may be able to run a set of MIL eliminators and leave the sensors on.

+ 1 - your best bet is to reinstall the stock air intake (assuming you have a CAI on) and re-flash back to stock tune. Then drive the car for a while before testing. I've yet to see any hard evidence explaining how much you have to drive the car but most say 50-100 miles with some stops to turn the engine off.

The OBD II port test has two parts:
1) Are the emissions related components "ready"
2) Are there any check engine lights or components not working (such as rear O2 sensors turned off)

The reason for the "ready" check is so people can not attempt to fool the test by re-flashing or pulling their battery right before the test in an attempt to try and make the test clean.

Im catless guys , hence why I got the new tune from Brenspeed to shut the O2s off. My question was Im allowed to have one in "Not Ready" state, and was curious if everything else will check out okay.

Are you allowed to be catless for the test? They don't check if you have them?

Every car is different. Some newer repair manuals have it under the fuel/emissions section. It's called a Drive Cycle. I have seen it in some car owners manual (don't know about the mustang though, haven't looked)
Trip
- A Trip for a particular Monitor requires that the vehicle is being
driven in such a way that all the required “Enabling Criteria†for the
Monitor to run and complete its diagnostic testing are met. The “Trip
Drive Cycle†for a particular Monitor begins when the ignition key is
turned “
On.†It is successfully completed when all the “Enabling
Criteria†for the Monitor to run and complete its diagnostic testing
are met by the time the ignition key is turned “
Off.†Since each of
the eleven monitors is designed to run diagnostics and testing on a
different part of the engine or emissions system, the “Trip Drive
Cycle†needed for each individual Monitor to run and complete
varies.
n
OBD 2 Drive Cycle - An OBD 2 Drive Cycle is an extended set of
driving procedures that takes into consideration the various types of
driving conditions encountered in real life. These conditions may
include starting the vehicle when it is cold, driving the vehicle at a
steady speed (cruising), accelerating, etc. An OBD 2 Drive Cycle
begins when the ignition key is turned “On†(when cold) and ends
when the vehicle has been driven in such a way as to have all the
“Enabling Criteria†met for
all its applicable Monitors. Only those
trips that provide the Enabling Criteria for
all Monitors applicable to
the vehicle to run and complete their individual diagnostic tests
qualify as an OBD 2 Drive Cycle. OBD 2 Drive Cycle requirements
vary from one model of vehicle to another. Vehicle manufacturers
set these procedures. Consult your vehicle’s service manual for
OBD 2 Drive Cycle procedures.
Do not confuse a “Trip†Drive

Derf - thanks, thats good info. So we still don't know how long for the Mustang but it does take a variety of conditions: cold start, acceleration, curise, etc.

Bomb - if they visually inspect for CATs you are probably out of luck. After you do the "drive cycle" and re-test, let us know what happens.

Don't want to be a jerk, but you should have done your homework!!. If they do a visual check for your cats (because you are failing the readyness test) you are screwed!!!
