Default Hood Prep/Paint

What have you guys payed in terms of getting a fiberglass hood prepped and painted? I talked to a family friend and he said it would be almost $1000 because they have to blend the fenders and take off the bumper and the headlights and crap.... I trust him but IMHO it doesn't seem like he knows what he was talking about.... I thought the hood just had to be prepped to get the surface smooth and the fitment perfect and then they lay down the paint.... he was telling me it's hard to get the paint to match and all that.... Am I crazy or is he right about all that?

$450 sounds right for a good job. I'd say $350 if it weren't fiberglass but just a factory part. Now...if you're in Cali or some place like that, local market conditions may vary.

Go to a fiberglass specialist, someone who works on customs, corvettes, etc. Should be around 600-700 max.

Lol.
Taking the bumper and head lights off to paint hood and fenders...
Do yourself a favor... Get a quote from an honest pro, not an ignorant.

On the other hand, $1000 to prep and paint a cheap fiberglass hood, is not excessive.
Just hope for you that you got a decent and straight one.
