SCT Xcal3 canned tunes and custom tunes
I'm doing a little experimenting with my new tuner and had been running the Brenspeed 87 octane tune for about 2 months. In the last several days, I've been trying the SCT 87 tune that was included with the tuner and there's a couple of noticable differences.
1) I don't have the noticable improvement in torque with the SCT tune that I had with the Brenspeed.
2) I got 2.6 MPG better with the SCT tune than I had been getting with the Brenspeed tune. (18.7 vs. 16.1) in my 60 mile daily Atlanta commute (stop-and-go).
3) I seem to get more smooth throttle action with the SCT tune than the Brespeed. It seems like I get much faster and more torquey power with the Breenspeed tune, but better driveability (smoother and more controlled throttle response) with the SCT. Somewhere between factory and the Brenspeed I'd say.
So, just wondering if anyone out there has tried this experiment and if so, what were your results? I must admit, I was a little shocked at the mileage drop when I went to the Brenspeed tune the first time. I know... who cares about mileage with a 300 HP car?? Well, I had averaged around 18 with the factory tune for several months on the same commute, so I wondered if it was just my lead foot or if the tune made that much of a difference. I'd have to agree, who gives a rats *** when gas was $1.70 a gallon, but now that it's $4, I'm trying to conserve a few of my hard earned dollars. From the results so far, I'd have to say that the extra torque is not worth the 2.5 MPG drop, a least in a commuting scenario.
Anyone?
