Default Adding performance to a Automatic

I dont know how to nor do I have interest in driving a Manual but I know that you can get mods to improve performance via HP and TQ to manuals that I would no be able to such as "short shifters" (whatever that is ) correct .

I am wondering if there are special things I can do for my Automatic which would be the equivalent, my friend said something about a "Torque Converter"

you could get a "stall" converter, i definatly would not advise it on street use though. i used to beat the **** out of my 06 auto gt with no tranny problems. something that i always looked for but could never find was the B&M 81004 shifter. i think that would look really neat in our cars. i cant copy an image on here, cause the good one is on RPMoutlet.com and they wont let you right click

Shifters don't add any torque or HP.
1. CAI/tune if you don't already have one. 3-5 tenths off the 1/4 mile
2. GEARS...3.73's - 2-4 tenths off the 1/4 mile
3.T/C =torque converter (maybe a 3000 stall). 2-5 tenths off the 1/4 mile
4. UDP = under drive pullies - maybe 1/10 off the 1/4 mile
5. 1 peice driveshaft - 1-2 tenths off the 1/4 mile
6. LTH = Long tube headers with o/r H or X pipe - 2-4 tenths off the 1/4 mile
7. DR's = drag radials...doesn't add power, just help you put it to the ground - 3-4 tenths off the 1/4 mile

Of course the above 1/4 mile shavings are only aguestimate, I think they're pretty close.
There's also some supporting mods like upper and lower control arms to help with traction.

You can have the shift points changed by a tuner to allow the motor to rev higher before shifting and to shift harder. That's about it unless you go for a hi stall convertor which as 'funtimes' said isn't really the best thing for street use.

good lord the lowest Tq converter is $500 and I dont even know where it goes. I've only done #1 on that list. Are you saying I should go in that order ? cause I might do #4 before #3 due to a $200 vs $500 price.

Seperate the tranny from the motor, slide off old T/C and slide on the new one.
Of course it's a little more involved than that, but that's it in a nutshell. It's located
in the bellhousing. I've done a few myself in my '67 Camaro and '65 Chevelle when it
easy to work on cars (back in the late '70's)

step1. pull the drive shaft, but leave the yolk in the tranny or you'll get fluid everywhere.(or drain fluid)
step2. unbolt tranny from the tranny mount.( support with jack)
step3. unbolt tranny from the motor. About 8 or 103/8-16 bolts that took forever to unscrew
you guys know what I'm talking about...1/4 turn at a time...10 minutes for 1 bolt.
step4. Disconnect your shifter and speedo cable
step5. supported by a jack...lower and slide the tranny back towards the rear of the car.
step6. reach up and pull off the T/C...careful not to tilt it..it's full of fluid.
step7. add fluid to new T/C and slide on.

Pretty sure that's about it...maybe some other things I over-looked.

reverse steps to re-install.

I can guarantee you that after the install, your hair will be very managable the next day
after the hot oil treatment you just received.

Let us not forget shift kits which aloow less slippage and quicker shifts to improve performance and mpg.
