There are wide tires made for 17" wheels. However most have an overall diameter that is shorter than stock. They are low profile sidewall. You end up with "skateboard" wheels on your car and a ton of space in the wheel wells. Which sucks. If you are lowered, or planning on lowering, then no problem. If not then you're stuck with a very limited selection of tires.

Take a look at nittotire.com and you will see that 555 and 555R series tires are not available in the sizes you appear to want. Anything over 255mm in width will have an overall diameter of well under 27". The same applies to most other manufacturers.

Here's some pics of 275-50-17s on Ford Polished 17x8Bullits.
How many miles do you have on these? I am thinking about putting on some wider tires but want to know how they will work out day to day.

These are on the hairy edge for a 8" rim, and I am unsure whether to get these or 255/50/17 Nitto Invos.

My car has only about 8200 miles on it total. The tires have probably about 5000 miles on them. I have had no problems with them what so ever. They fill out the wheel well nicely because of the taller height. Now I just have to wait for the taller tires to come in for the front.

Sorry last question Retro, but how would you rate these for a DD?

I just ask because it seems that an 8" is too narrow for a tire that size. I dont want to pop the bead or anything, but with my power level I need a better tire than the perilli's.

Thanks

Like I said my car is not a DD but I have no issues at all with the tires. If you look on theFalken Tire Website the measured rim was 8.5which means that's the rim size the tire specs were taken on, but they say you can mount it on a 7.5 to 9.5 rim. When they mounted mine they really had to lube up the bead alot to get it to pop. All I can say is they are a quite and good riding tire and I'm not sorry I bought them. Hope this helps and if you have anymore questions don't be afraid to ask.

Thanks for the info. Now I am just waiting for the stock tires to wear out, but the darn things still look new after 20K miles.[:@]

Me too, I spin these tires all the time but they dont make any smoke or squeal. I am saving a bunch of money for performance mods round 2, so I will just wait.
