to the OP, i emailed AMP performance and talked to Tom on the phone, i had the same exact question a year ago. they charge 6200 here in Chandler AZ, thats all parts and labor. for another 800 you can go with the tremec, the one in the gt500 (t56) i think? could be wrong. anyway, if your interested, i can get you numbers and his personal email and phone. he is a great guy to work with. let me know what you think

well first of stay away from the stock 5 speed since it is crap. People are having problems with them up and down after adding a power adder. If anything go with a TKO500 or 600. I would do a tr-6060 swap directly from D&D Performance for 4k with everything except clutch. I am doing the same swap I got a tr6060 used from a gt500 with the double clutch and flywheel, shifter for 2,400. I bought the k-member + bolts for $100, I found a Used Saleen Extreme drive shaft for 400 shipped. So the swap will cost me 2,900 when all is said and done. Round it to 3.1k since I am buying a mcleod Throw out bearing and miscellaneous stuff like trans fluid and stuff like that.

Approximately how much would it cost (parts + installation) for a swap from an automatic to a 5-speed?
Has anyone ever done this?

thanks in advance!
Well you asked for parts and instalation so it would cost 6.5k. also you could easily swap the GT500's 6 speed for the same price so there is no reason to go with a 5 speed.
what is better about the 6-speed.
please school me
3rd, 4th, 5th are close ratiod perfect for racing. It handles a hell lot more power than the stock 5 speed, the stock 5 speed is rated at around 390 lbs of tq if I am not mistaken. It is a pretty weak tranny + shifting is a mess.

I myself am going through the same dilemna you are but im selling my car within a week or two and buying another one with a manual transmission. Worth the trouble? To me it will be.. ill probably spend no more than a grand or two at the very most. Bit of a headache? Definite yes, but you live and learn.
