Default TPMS

Hi. I am a new member. I recently purchased a 2007 4.0 convertible. I bought a new set of wheels and tires, but before I install them, I have a question. Is there someway I can disable the TPMS. I prefer not to transfer the sensors from my old wheel/tires, and would like to disable the dashboard "low pressure" warning light. I know I can just live with the light or put tape over it, but I figure if anybody knows if it can be disabled, it would be here.
Thank you,
Tom Cavallo

Tom,

The warning light cannot be disabled. Either you swap sensors to your new rims using universal bands or buy new sensors and install them onto your new wheels and keep the old ones on your stock set.

If you have 2 different sets of sensors, you will have to have them recalibrated to your unit each time you switch. It can be done by the dealer and it only takes a few minutes. Use the search feature and type in TPMS - I was having big-time issues with it back in the day and have written many posts. Good luck.

When I got new rims I put the sensors onto the new ones. I bought bands from american muscle....and the place that I got it done at just charged me for the mount and balance. I stillhave the stock rimes sitting in the basemet....I did not want to deal with the TMPS light on the dash.

There is always the PVC pipe trick too! I just got in the habbit of hitting the reset button and the traction control button each time I start the car.

+1. I did the same and the Ford dealership didn't charge me any more to dismount my old tires and to mount them on my new wheels.

The PVC pipe trick is to place the sensors in a length of PVC pipe that is sealed and has a connection so you can pressurize it to ~30 PSI, then toss the pipe in the trunk. This supposedly fakes-out the TPMS.
