Default Shaker 500 starting to "Sputter"

I'm starting to have some problems with the Shaker 500 radio in my '06 GT 'vert. Anybody have any ideas on upgrading my audio unit? I wouldn't mind stepping up to an HD radio/CD player. I'd like something with a decent AM section, and I don't need 9 million watts of power. Can I get an after market that will plug into my factory wiring? How about the amps? I've already upgraded the speakers front & back so they're OK. I'd like a little better sound than I have now, but it's not horrible now. I don't want to do any cutting of the dash. How about it guys, can you help an old guy out?
