Default Scratched steering wheel

I don't know how the heck I did it, but somehow I scratched the leather on my steering wheel. Aside from the appearance, even worse is that I don't like the way it feels. It's got a rough feel to it. I tried applying leather treatment to it, and until it dried completely, that helped a little, but that didn't last long.

What can I do to fix it short of replacing the steering wheel? Maybe use a very fine sandpaper or something? That would probably change the color, though, and look terrible. I guess I could get a steering wheel cover, but I like the way the stock steering wheel looks and I'd rather be able to fix it.

That sucks. I did it on my last car and it drove me insane each time my hand went over the spot. Over time it kind of went away.....either that or I got used to it

Check with some of the dealerships in your area...there are folks that go around and repair scratched/damaged leather, even on steering wheels. It will never be perfect again, but they can make it look a heck of a lot better. I once had a small tear in my leather seat (in an old Cougar of mine) and you had to really look to find it (they also repaired a small scratch in my vinyl dash).

Just use a steering wheel cover....

I always have, I prefer it over the feel of the actual steering wheel.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Llama, I could just buy a Bullit, I guess. (The car, not the steering wheel.) Nah, too expensive.

I guess I'll try the cover. It's less than $20 to try, and if I don't like it, it's easy to remove.
