Oil Change Time
ORIGINAL: Rubrignitz
Amsoil had some issue with their earlier formulations thickening after 10k miles. The signature series 0w-30 (what i currently use) has supposedly ironed out that problem. That's why I've left it in for 12k miles. I've seen UOA's with this formualtion showing good TBN after !20k! miles and beyond. I'll leave it in for another 1k miles and then get an analysis. I'm sure it will still be fine.
If you live your oil in for 12k miles what are you doing here asking about the warranty? You wont have an engine in the long run lol.

Do you have any idea how hard it is for a dealer to prove if anything that you were running a non-api approved oil? or better yet that you were running 5w-30? They have to PROVE that you were using it not the other way around.

I've made my decision. I just purchased 12 quarts of Redline 5W30 (real full synthetic) and will never look back.
My engine is more important than all this other warranty bullsh*t I'm hearing. Who wants to take their car to Ford dealerships anyway?! They'll end up causing you more damage. Plus, after reading everything, it will be almost impossible for them to detect which oil is in the vehicle and the oil will more than likely NOT be what caused the problem (plus, just change it before you bring it to them - har har har).
This thread is very informative!

Can't they just send it away for analysis like you keep telling us to do?

Picked up viscosity? Isn't it usually the other way around? IE, it's more likely to shed viscosity than to gain it? I'm not sure it's possible to gain viscosity.
I guess you could drain the oil and put in some 5W-20 before taking it in. Just in case. However to do so is dishonest.

I still love my car though....
Two wrongs don't make a right. Three rights do however make a left.
When is it OK to switch to a full synthetic? I have 8,000 miles on my car and so far just been using motorcraft synthetic blend. I'm considering royal purple or mobile 1. Both can be got locally without having to order over the internet.

LOL bro thats mainly a non-issue here you are worried about them taking the warranty out because of your CAI and asking on the other thread the difference between header and exhaust manifolds lol. They have to PROVE that you were using it not the other way around. Whatever it is if you want to sacrifice your long term of your engine and not to mention your hp and tq long term then go with 5w-30. If you are worried about a cai voiding your warranty(which it can't) but either way buy an accord.

Androdz2, If the dealer sees your CAI installed, that is all they have to do. They can deny a warranty claim on any engine part. The dealer doesn't have to PROVE anything once they see it installed. You have to Prove that it did not cause the problem. Not an easy task. I have seen it happen. I know a dealer who did this and the warranty didn't pay for the repair. If you don't care about the warranty, then okay, if you do, then you need to know about this. Will a CAI cause a problem? Yes it can. It can make your engine run lean without a tune to adjust the timing. You could blow a cylinder.
